Electric mobility · 2025-12
Southeast Asia’s EV opportunity extends beyond the vehicle.
As electric mobility scales, charging, servicing and fleet operations become increasingly important parts of the commercial system.
Sector briefing · Retrospective edition prepared September 2026
The evidence
The IEA’s Global EV Outlook 2025 reported more than 17 million electric-car sales worldwide in 2024, exceeding 20% of total car sales. Southeast Asian electric-car sales grew by nearly 50%, reaching a 9% sales share. These are 2024 results reported in 2025.
The business implication
Regional businesses can participate through fleet management, charging-site development, aftersales capability and component supply. The most visible installation is not necessarily the most useful location. Utilisation, grid access, dwell time and customer behaviour shape the business case for a charging site.
What leaders should examine
Build the commercial model around a defined user group: workplace drivers, residential communities, delivery fleets or intercity travellers. Confirm power availability and site tenure before ordering equipment. Model maintenance, payment collection and customer support alongside energy costs. Treat incentives and electricity tariffs as assumptions to be checked locally.
What repeat demand will use the asset after the launch campaign ends?
